What should I wear to a friend’s 50th? Dress code: Glam!
The invitation pings into your inbox, or drops through your letterbox (if you’re old school) and you scan it to see what the dress code is. When you see the word ‘Glam’ you recoil in horror and a little voice says ‘what on earth am I going to wear?’
At a certain point in your life you don’t want to buy something that you’ll just wear once, especially if it’s a party dress. So I have selected some options that would look amazing at a super glamorous party but would also be good investments to have in your wardrobe for other events throughout the year.
Go have some fun.

Option 1
A velvet suit is the ultimate cool girl vibe for a glam party. It’s super chic and elegant but can also come across as a great laid back look and it doesn’t feel like you have tried too hard. I love that you can separate a suit. A velvet blazer is so useful to dress up a pair of jeans and equally a lovely knit with a pair of velvet trousers and trainers makes for a great daytime look. You could also wear the suit with a t-shirt for another daytime option. If you’re comfortable with it, this blazer would look great with nothing underneath for a sexy night time look.
Option 2
Short and sassy is the feel of this look. And a safe bet with black. But with a twist. The sequins and velvet bows give it that glam edge. There is nothing to say you can’t wear tights if that makes you more comfortable and a pair of flat ballet pumps if your heel wearing days are long gone.
Paired with all black accessories to make it the epitome of sophistication this says fun but fabulous.
Option 3
The joy of a jumpsuit, especially in a bright colour. If you like to make a statement with your clothes, then this is one for you. I am a huge fan of pink and it works just as well in the Summer as it does in the Winter. Paired here with sparkly accessories it says ‘Glam’ without being too over the top bling. The brooch is detachable so you could wear this for a daytime look with flat shoes and a casual jacket or on holiday with a sun kissed glow. Either way it is pretty fabulous.
Option 4
You will 100% be in for a great night if you are wearing this dress. Such an adorable combination of colours, and the collar and bows add to the fun element. I have kept the accessories simple and paired it with cream shoes and pearl bow earrings to tie it all together. You are definitely making a statement in this dress but it also ticks the glam box in a big way. Sequins don’t have to be loud and bright to make an entrance. Sometimes understated hues speak volumes.
Option 5
In case you have been hiding under a rock, you will have noticed that leopard has taken over the fashion world this season, in a huge way. And how versatile is this dress? Pair it with a gorgeous pair of ankle boots for the party, and a beaded leopard (of course) clutch bag and then you can wear it with trainers and a biker jacket for more casual days or dinners. And when it gets a bit cooler, pop a jumper or sweatshirt over the top and you have another outfit that looks like a skirt and a top. Winning on all levels.
Option 6
If you love a tulle skirt, this is a great look to wear to a party. Super comfortable, stylish and chic. Personally I would then wear the skirt in the day with a t-shirt and blazer or sweatshirt or Breton top.
This is a great look if you want to make sure comfort is key while also being glam. The flat shoes will ensure you have a fantastic evening without the blisters or the pain! And a beautiful silk shirt has endless possibilities.
